Having a commission done is no small task. Communication is the key to a successful piece of art that you will proudly hang in your home or the home of a close friend or family member. I strive to understand exactly what it is that you want and try to interperate what your visions are through a series of questions that will be unique to each client. Below is a standard agreement between you, the client and myself, the artist. Zero AI is used in any part of my process.
I hope this answers any questions you may have. If not, please don’t hestiate to contact me in the form above. I would love to help any way that I can to make sure you get the results you desire.
WHAT I REQUIRE BEFORE STARTING.
I require a non-refundable deposit of 25% of the total commission price to purchase required product to commence the artwork. If you later decide you no longer want to proceed, this deposit is forfeited by you to cover my expenses.
• My commission cost is approximately $0.40c per cm2 for oil paintings on stretched deep edge canvas (my preferred approach) for a standard portrait i.e. one subject basic background. This does not include framing costs – if any. Minimum size is 16" x 20" (41 x 51cm)
• I require specific information and/or quality photographs to complete the commission to the highest standard. If professional photographs are used, I must have written permission from the original photographer. This will ensure no legal issues arise and it is out of respect to the photographer (this is their livelihood).
• Some edits will be accepted (i.e. if you would like additional minor changes to the original design). However, I will not compromise the overall aesthetics or composition of the artwork as I see fit. I would love you to feel a part of the process, but I need to put my name against the final piece and would ask that you trust my experience and final decision on any medium to major changes.
• I will endeavour to have the artwork completed in a reasonable amount of time. This will depend on the time frame allowed. It will also depend on my workload at the time and one or both of these will play a big part in studio time available (I will discuss this with you in person before commencing). I am currently not a full-time artist so my painting time is precious and any and all spare time will be spent getting your commission to you as soon as possible. So please allow 4-6 weeks and in rare (but not impossible) cases; even longer. This may depend on the size of the artwork and if it requires to be framed. I will keep you updated as I go.
• Full and final payment is required once the final artwork is completed and before framing (where needed), collection or posting (postage is through Australia Post at an additional cost and will include insurance – may also depend on artwork size). If you are not satisfied with the final artwork and decide that you no longer want to proceed, your deposit will be forfeited (additional payments refunded), and I will adjust the painting and on-sell as I see fit.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
• Completed artwork at a high standard.
• I will forward through 3 progress candid photos of the painting in progress with the final photo for proofing before any payment balances paid (unless advised otherwise) and before final touches and varnishes are applied.
• High quality fine art. All products and procedures used are of professional standard from start to finish (no cheap shop products or short cuts)
• An artwork designed to last for generations (when handled/stored correctly)
• Professional finish -*varnish &/or framing
….
*oil paintings will require a final permanent varnish 6 - 12 months after completion – please either return it to me for this process for free or take it to your closest reputable artist or art & framing store. Do not accept household or trade store grade varnish – this will compromise the life span of your artwork. I recommend and use Matisse Final Varnish Satin or Matisse UV Conservation Varnish (slightly glossy) but any artist grade solvent-based varnish will suffice.
